Measuring Up for the Perfect Artwork Placement

We've written about this before, but selecting the appropriate size for your artwork is so key to achieving a harmonious and impactful display in your space, we're revisiting the topic!

We offer our artworks in a wide range of standard sizes, but if they still aren't the perfect fit for your space, we offer a customisation service if required.

Here's a step-by-step guide to assist you in measuring and visualizing the perfect fit:

Determine the Available Wall Space

Measure the width and height of the wall area where you intend to place the artwork. A common guideline suggests that the artwork, including its frame, should occupy approximately two-thirds to three-quarters of the available wall space.

Visualize with Templates

Cut pieces of kraft paper or use painter's tape to outline the dimensions of the prospective artwork directly on your wall. This technique allows you to assess how different sizes and shapes will appear in context.

Consider Furniture Proximity

When placing art above furniture, such as sofas or beds, ensure there's adequate space between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the artwork. Typically, a gap of 10 to 30 cm is recommended to create a cohesive look.

Maintain Balance in Gallery Walls

For arrangements involving multiple pieces, maintain consistent spacing between artworks. Larger pieces typically look best with 5 to 7.5 cm between them, while smaller pieces can be spaced about 5 cm apart.

Seek Additional Perspectives

After setting up your templates, take photographs from various angles. Reviewing these images or consulting with a friend, or with us, can provide valuable insights into the suitability of the chosen size and placement.

By meticulously measuring and visualizing your artwork in its intended location, you can ensure a perfect fit that enhances your space's aesthetic appeal.
